Under the Sea

In my recent fascination with corals and undersea creatures, I’ve learned that coral reef ecosystems face threats including ocean warming, ocean acidification and pollution. I began making art in response to these threats. The first pieces in this series were loosely realistic and each subsequent piece became more fantastical, invented and abstracted.

That Which Was

Over the past year, a number of strangers have gifted me old linens and silk clothing that belonged to long-gone family members, inviting me to make use of them in my art work. This piece grew into an ‘anonymous collaboration’. I love to ponder who owned, wore, used these precious heirlooms, and can only imagine the stories they hold. I have encased them in beeswax to preserve their secrets, their histories, and their herstories.
