In this ongoing body of work, I explore the fragility of our longing to connect with each other and to find comfort together in the natural world. When I layer and wrap medical plaster bandage into cocoon shapes, the material becomes a symbol for healing, mending, repairing. Many of the pods are layered and fused with beeswax, which offers a gentle warmth and skin-like protection. Some are then burned and burnished, a reminder of the cycles of loss and resilience. Set amidst remnants of bullrushes, branches and seed pods, these pieces are an invitation to ponder relationships — to ourselves, to others and to the planet.
Shelter
shelter in place
at home
in the park
in the forest
shelter from the storm
(snow storm, rain storm, hail storm
verbal storm, desert storm)
shelter the ancient trees
find shelter, take shelter, give shelter
refuge, asylum, cloister, hermitage, sanctuary, haven, harbour
in a log, in a knothole, under a tree, in a hollow bone
shelter from violence, from others, from harm,
from mistreatment and misunderstanding
for protection and safety, for peace,
for rest and rejuvenation
in isolation
in community
shelter

Not sure which piece I like the best, (and not sure why I have to decide) but i do love the boats and the bone chair!! BUT where there’s a will — the wings, the wheels.
