Through my studio practice, I create sculptures and installations in response to environmental and political issues. Both my art education and my history as an art therapist inform my current exploration of our human vulnerability and the dichotomy of hope and futility in the face of dispossession. I take my inspiration from nature and its potential to heal. I draw on natural sources for my materials, including branches, leaves, lichens and beeswax, in combination with plaster gauze, felted wool, and stitched textiles. I recognize that I am an uninvited guest on the traditional lands that have been cared for and stewarded for thousands of years by the Lekwungen Peoples, known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, and commonly referred to as Victoria, BC.
